Dr. Chang began her musical studies at an early age with studies in piano and voice﹐After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree﹐as the first place student of the class﹐from the Dept. of Music of the Tunghai University﹐She went to the United States to study vocal performance at the Michigan State University (MSU). Two of her most influential vocal teachers are Prof. Meredith Zara who is the famous Prime Donna of Düsseldorf Opera Theater of Germany, and Chairman of MSU Vocal Musical Group﹐ and the renowned Coloratura Soprano Dilbèr of Finish National Opera Theater.
During study in MSU, Chang had held several solo recitals one after another and the music performed invariably includes art songs, liederkreis, opera arias, chamber songs etc. Among them, she was particularly good not only at the lieder interpretation of “Hugo Wolf”、“Richard Strauss” , and the vocal composition of “Samuel Barber”, but also at opera performing of “Giocomo Puccini” . Moreover, she took part in operas, namely, “La Boèhme”, “Cosi fan tutte”, “Amahl and the Night Visitors”, “Die Zauberflöte”, “Hänsel und Gretel”, etc. as well as the cooperated instrumental performance. She frequently took part in off-campus performances and tournaments, and, eventually won the first prize of Michigan State Vocal Contest sponsored by NATS(National Association of Teachers-Singing).
Upon return to homeland, Dr. Chang became immediately the full-time associate professor of National Hsinchu College of Education(former of National Tsing Hua University). From the date of Chang’s teaching till now, Dr. Chang have delivered approximately 15 stages of soprano solo recitals and other performances under invitation.
In addition to her vocal performances, Dr. Chang has actively committed herself to academic research, teaching, and competition judge jobs. Her tasks include being an international symposium committee member, the principal investigator on the Teaching Excellence Project hosted by the Ministry of Education, a host and a planner and executor of voice masterclasses and seminars, a planner and instructor of Art Festival of the National Hsinchu University of Education, a host of Violin Masterclass with Lin Cho-Liang, an internationally acclaimed violinist, a team member of the project-based peer-review visit to elementary schools, a member of the written and oral exams for elementary school teacher recruitment, a thesis/dissertation defense committee member, a guidance committee member of the elementary schools in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli area, a judge of the non-student division chorus competitions hosted by The Ministry of Culture, a judge of the National Student Music Competition hosted by the Ministry of Education, a judge of vocal music competitions hosted by The Association of Vocal Artists, and a planner and guide of concerts hosted by the Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank.
Dr. Chang is now the full professor in voice at the National Tsing Hua University, mainly teaching vocal music, studies in art songs, English diction and British and American songs, French diction and French songs. Dr. Chang is also the core member of the Association of Vocal Artists of R0C.
